Show me Missouri City and we’ll show you one of America’s best places to live, according to MONEY Magazine’s latest announcement. Almost 600 communities met the initial requirements and Missouri City ranked 56 on the final list of 100.

“We looked at small cities with great schools, low crime, a bustling economy and this year, short commutes,” said Jean Chatzky, Financial Editor of MONEY Magazine on the NBC Today Show featuring this year’s best places to live. “We wanted places where people could actually find work in those places to live.” Missouri City’s job growth increased 43.88 percent between 2000 and 2007 compared to the best places job growth average of 18.72 percent.
“Our time has arrived,” said Mayor Allen Owen, “and the outstanding marks we received are indicative of our dynamic evolution as a community in which to live, work and enjoy outstanding leisure opportunities. The credit goes to our citizens and we work diligently to meet and hopefully exceed their expectations as a safe and forward thinking community.”
MONEY’s team of editors and writers spent several months researching and reviewing data on a wide range of economic and quality-of-life indicators. Missouri City’s low crime rate was a factor contributing to its high marks for quality of life indicators.

“We are very proud to be part of your local community’s celebration for receiving MONEY’s national recognition on America’s Best Places to Live,” said MONEY assistant managing editor Beth Fenner. “Above and beyond the statistical research, MONEY editors spent a lot of time speaking to residents, and business and community leaders; we were duly impressed and you deserve this recognition.”
Located just southwest of Houston, Missouri City is referred to as a former bedroom community that is growing into its own place with a combination of rapid commercial development and still undeveloped land.
MONEY started with an initial list of 586 places that have populations between 50,000 and 300,000. Working with data provider Onboard of New York City and consultant Bert Sperling of BestPlaces.net, MONEY’s team narrowed the list and then visited cities across the country, interviewing residents, community leaders and local officials before compiling the final rankings.
