The Houston area has become a magnet for adults approaching or at retirement age because of the warm climate, low cost of living, world-class medical facilities and no state income tax.
Where do you want to retire? If you are like most people, you want to live in a community where you can stay active and enjoy your golden years surrounded by friends and family. A place like Sienna.
Offering a wealth of amenities, events planned just for seniors by an active adult recreation coordinator, nearby activities and a fantastic sense of community, Sienna has become a popular place for retirees to live out their golden years.
What sort of activities? This month, active adults can meet up for lunch, brunch or dinner where they make new friends and share photos of their grandchildren. Bunco and bridge are popular activities. The Sienna Senior Men’s Golf Association will host its annual golf tournament. A number of clubs — such as the Sienna Sewing Group — meet weekly to engage in favored activities and have fun.
The 50+ Group does a lot of volunteering, too. This month, they can help out at the Friends of Sienna Library Winter Book Sale, and volunteer for Child Advocates of Fort Bend and Ronald McDonald House. Horse-loving seniors can help people with disabilities through Star Therapeutic at Sienna Stables. East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry always needs food pantry help. There’s even an opportunity to give back to the greater community by manning the Seasoned Seniors tent at the Farmers Market in Sienna.
Beyond Sienna, active adults will discover even more activities including trips and outings hosted by the Tri-city Women’s Club, the Missouri City Parks and Recreation Senior Program and First United Methodist Church’s Fun Folks group.
Resident Charles Milan sums it up — “We are extremely happy being retired in Sienna.”
