Galveston Island State Park Enhancements
May 12, 2022

If you live in Sienna and have kids, chances are you’ll head down to Galveston at some point over the summer. When you do, you’ll want to check out the new and much improved Galveston Island State Park.

It’s a great place to camp in a camper or even a tent. It now has 125 campsites, including water and electric sites, water-only sites, platform sites for tent camping and extra-wide sites for large RVs. There are also historic rental houses on the bayside if you don’t want to camp. Another nice upgrade are the kayak launch locations from the bayside.  If you are interested in a day trip only, there are boardwalks with rinse-off showers and changing stations on the beachside and there are several day-use pavilions. They’ve also added a vendor area, new restrooms, two observation towers, paved roads and a remodeled nature center. If you like to hike, there is a new trail on the beachside and more than 5 miles of trails on the bayside.  So many options and very reasonable prices! Visit www.tpwd.texas.gov and under “find a park” scroll down the alphabetical list.
