GreatSchools is a non-profit organization that aggregates data and rates schools on a variety of measures to help parents choose the best schools for their children.
The College Success Awards recognize public high schools that go above and beyond when it comes to helping students prepare for and enroll in college. Our onsite high school was one of only 21 percent — or 2,158 schools across 29 states — to receive the award. It was one of 314 schools in Texas.
Schools are rated on a scale of one to 10 based on school-level college readiness and postsecondary data shared by their state, including the number of students who enroll in college, those prepared for college-level coursework and those who remain in college beyond their first year.
Ridge Point was scored 9 out of 10. The school graduates 98 percent of its students. Of those graduates, 70 percent attend either a two-year or four-year college. This is well above the state rate of 55 percent.
Helping students prepare for the rigors of college are a phalanx of teachers, 43 percent of who have advanced degrees. The school offers 28 Advanced Placement and 16 honors program courses. Of the students who choose to participate in AP classes, 70 percent score a 3 or higher. Dual credit classes are available to help students get a jump on their college general education requirements,
Academics aren’t everything. College admissions officers want to see participation in extracurricular activities. The school has a strong athletics program. Most recently, the Panthers finished as runners-up in the UIL State 2019 Championship. Debate, art, orchestra, FFA, dance, engineering, several foreign languages and journalism are just some of the other available options.
Congratulations, Panthers! We wish you every success in your future endeavors.
