Sienna parents will soon have more options for their high school students — Divine Savior Academy - Sienna (DSA) is expanding.
The school, at 770 Waters Lake Boulevard, is adding a ninth-grade class in August 2021, with the intent to add a new grade each year until the school is at full capacity with pre-K through 12th grade classes. Enrollment for ninth grade begins this November.
Pandemic concerns prompted a rush in applications for the current school year as parents sought smaller classrooms. The Sienna campus boasts a 1:15 teacher/student ratio.
“The academy experienced a 72 percent increase in applications received,” said Jake Unke, DSA High School Principal. “With no other private school offering pre-K through 12th grade in the area between U.S. 69 (formerly U.S. 59) and State Highway 288, the need is tremendous.”
The academy’s current building on its 16-acre campus can accommodate two ninth grade classes. Plans are currently being made to expand DSA’s current footprint by an additional 20,000 square feet. The new space will include a College and Career Counseling Center focused on preparing DSA students for success within the college and vocation of their choice. Also planned is an expansion of the academy’s fine arts, leadership, STEM and second language immersion programs. Construction is expected to begin in 2022.
In addition to a rigorous and interdisciplinary curriculum, DSA enhances student learning through its Destination Discovery program, taking education outside of the walls of the academy where experiential learning is encouraged. At DSA, minds, bodies and souls are nurtured resulting in a well-rounded student experience.
“The academy is helping students to excel not just in school but also in life, and we want to see that continued through high school,” said DSA parent Missy Bellinger.
Another DSA parent, Kerry Hincks Walsh is excited about the expansion, as well.
“As a family with children ranging in age from Pre-K to eighth grade, we made the decision to enroll all three of our girls at Divine Savior Academy this year,” she said. “We are thrilled to know that the school will continue to offer that same holistic educational experience for our daughters as they transition to high school, all right in our neighborhood.”
