H-E-B Names Fort Bend ISD Texas' Best District
May 09, 2018

Our favorite award-winning district just scored another award, this time from one of our favorite grocers, H-E-B.

The district was named Texas’ best large district during the H-E-B annual Excellence in Education awards on May 5. The awards spotlight best practices and celebrate the passion and creativity of Texas educators.

Each year, H-E-B asks customers, employees and community members to nominate teachers, principals, districts, early childhood facilities and school boards in Texas. This year, there were more than 1,600 nominations.

Each nominee is sent an invitation to complete an application online and is asked about their professional experiences, educational philosophies and achievements both in and out of the classroom. Semi-finalists are determined by a panel of judges. Another panel of judges made up of former winners, administrators and civic leaders select finalists in each category.

The most prestigious award goes to the best large district. Fort Bend ISD encompasses 11 high schools, 15 middle schools, 3 specialty schools and 50 elementary schools that serve approximately 75,000 students.

The award comes with a $100,000 grant, part of the $430,000 in cash and grants awarded this year. The program has given away more than $9.5 million since its 2002 launch in association with the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Young Sienna Plantation students are zoned to eight Fort Bend ISD schools — six of them located right here in our community. All of our schools have been honored with awards for educational excellence. We congratulate Fort Bend ISD and say thank you to the teachers and employees that walk our children down the road to academic and personal success.
