Fort Bend ISD announced that dependent upon the Texas Legislature’s approval of funding, FBISD plans to offer an exemption-based, Virtual Learning Program for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2021-22 school year.
This program will offer full-time, virtual instruction that includes both synchronous and asynchronous segments. Individuals who are designated high risk for severe illness due to COVID by the Centers for Disease Control are eligible to attend this virtual learning program. There is an application process and people can apply now through May 14. The district believes as many as 10,000 students could potentially meet the eligibility criteria. Some of the conditions that the CDC says make a child high risk are diabetes, severe obesity, immune deficiencies, asthma or lung disease. I know this is an answered prayer for some families who do not want to home school but are concerned about their child, and also great news for those who feel their student needs to be face-to-face.
