In 2018, a contractor working on an FBISD construction site found human remains. The site was the James Reese Career and Technical Center, and the remains were those of 94 men and one woman who had been buried in a forgotten cemetery for people who had been working in a Convict Labor Camp.
After months and months of research, it was discovered that most of these people died at around age 24, but the youngest discovered was just 16. Plans are in the works to properly memorialize these individuals as well as educate our community about their contributions to the history of our area. The FBISD Board of Trustees is discussing the design of an educational exhibit to be housed at the Reese Career Center. You can read the full report and summary at 95.
