This year, the Ridge Point Panthers got a new head football coach. Rick Lafavors had been an assistant coach here a few years back. When Coach Rick got the offer to be the head coach at Lamar High School in Richmond, all who knew Rick knew it was our loss, so we were thrilled to hear he was coming back here to be our head coach. Last Spring, we had no idea what COVID would do to this high school football season or if we’d even have one. I say "we" because I have a son who is a senior at Ridge Point this year and he wanted to play football his last year. From his first day on the job, Coach Rick sent out emails keeping us parents up-to-date with the latest COVID news and the district’s plans regarding the season. It was frustrating and confusing at times and yet Coach remained calm and hopeful. The Panthers not only had a season, they had a winning season and kept the district title for the sixth time in nine years! Ridge Point went undefeated in district on all levels. Our first playoff game will be December 11 at Hall Stadium. Coach Rick continues to pour his heart and soul into leading the boys and it’s been a true blessing to watch. Regardless of how far the team gets in the playoffs, I have no doubt that Principal Brogan chose the right man for the job in bringing Rick Lafavors back to Ridge Point. GO PANTHERS!
