Patricia Haroski registered Boss’s Day with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958 and chose October 16 as the date because it was her Daddy’s birthday. Patrica worked for her father at his State Farm Insurance agency in Illinois and decided that a good boss was something to celebrate. When October 16 falls on a weekend, it is celebrated the Friday before. I remember years ago taking my boss out to his favorite restaurant for lunch every year to celebrate this and loving the fact that if he was with us, we could linger and not pay attention to the clock. Since I own a yard sign company, I pay close attention to dates such as this and enjoy helping people celebrate people. One of my customers has a great sense of humor and ordered a sign that I hope made her boss laugh. If he didn’t, then I suppose his sense of humor is not so great.
