Texas A&M Galveston
February 19, 2020

I recently toured Texas A&M Galveston and learned so much about them that I did not know.    TAMUG is under the management and control of the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System, making it the only location outside of College Station/main campus with degrees offered under the name & authority of Texas A&M University.  They are a special-purpose institution of higher education for undergraduate and graduate instruction in marine and maritime studies in science, engineering and business. It's a great place to go for those interested in research and public services related to the general field of marine resources. TAMUG is located on a little island just off Galveston so they are an Island off an Island — which makes perfect sense being that they study the ocean and all things related to it.  I met a student who is in the Maritime Academy there and he is learning how to operate & maintain a large ocean-going vessel.  In additon to being in the classroom, he gets field training weekly.  He was telling us that he is from Kentucky and did not know there was a Maritime Academy anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico just 6 months before he applied. If you have a student interested in marine and maritime studies, you can read more about the Sea Aggies at www.tamug.edu
